Augmented Reality
I chose Augmented Reality as my 'path of inquiry.' The definition of Augmented Reality (AR) is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are "augmented" by computer generated perceptual information, ideally across multiple sensory modalities, including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory, and olfactory. Augmented Reality alters one's current perception of a real world environment, whereas virtual reality replaces the real world environment with a simulated one.
I am choosing this path because AR has the potential to help greatly in the medical field. ProjectDR, developed by graduates in Canada, uses medical images from sources such as CT scans and lines them up with the patient's physical body while the doctor looks at them. Future features may include automatic calibration and sensors that accurately portray the depth of organs.
My experience with AR is through mobile apps/games. I hope to expand my knowledge of this subject in the future.
