I became interested with Augmented Reality with the release of several apps/games for the Iphone. The idea of bringing artificial characters into your world is unique. I was also interested in Virtual reality. My research paper discussed the differences between AR/VR.
This relates to my field of study in Digital Media and the Arts. I can have a deeper understanding of media types and technology. I hope to have a career in Digital Media and this course provides for a good foundation.
All the types of media and its history has changed my perception of the future of new media. As new technology is introduced, there could be new types of jobs and responsibilities for humans.
With new media and technology, there may come some ethical and philosophical concerns. Should AI be part of main society? How do we give this new intelligence its rights? There can be dangerous consequences with AI.

VR/AR/MR
Differences between Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality/ Mixed Reality
Virtual Reality (VR) can be referred to as immersive multimedia or computer-simulated reality, replicates an environment that simulates a physical presence in places in the real world or an imagined world, allowing the user to interact in that world.
Augmented Reality(AR) is a live, direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data.
Mixed Reality (MR) is the merging of real and virtual worlds to produce new environments and visualizations where physical and digital objects co-exist and interact in real time.
VR and AR can easily be confused. AR brings imaginary objects into the real world where VR creates a whole new environment that is simulated using a device such as a virtual headset. AR can be used with IPhone, IPad and Google Glass.

Computer Viruses
Computer Viruses can infect systems through normal web activities such as visiting websites, opening emails, and installing software. Viruses are "programmed to harm your computer by damaging programs, deleting files, or reformatting the hard drive. Others simply replicate themselves or flood a network with traffic, making it impossible to perform any activity."
Malware symptoms include slow performance, data loss, and computer crashes. Its important to have a firewall and good antivirus program like Avast for protection. Any suspicious emails should be deleted.
This relates to the New Media text in that it provides valuable information in protecting yourself in the world wide web. The web is so open and vulnerable to dangerous activity and invasion of privacies.
